Once an aristocratic extravagance, Horton Tower now serves its local community with Vodafone 4G signal.
High on a hill, in the middle of a field in rural Dorset, sits Horton Tower.
Although this seven-storey tower looks medieval, it was actually built at some point in the 18th century by local landowner, architect, MP and country squire, Humphrey Sturt.
Originally built as a ‘folly’ – a building constructed merely to look attractive and with no functional purpose – it has been owned by Vodafone since 1994. Horton Tower’s height makes it ideal for supplying mobile coverage to Vodafone customers visiting, living and working in this beautiful corner of the Dorset countryside.
