Vodafone has launched its fastest-ever broadband by bringing customers full fibre speeds of up to 2.2Gbps*, meaning it now offers the fastest speeds in more locations across the UK than any other major provider.

Part of a complete refresh of its Pro II Broadband portfolio, the new plan, up to 60x faster than our standard broadband**, gives customers access to Vodafone’s fastest speeds up to 1.6Gbps, 1.8Gbps or 2.2Gbps based on their location. The plan, available exclusively to new customers, unlocks the true capability of Vodafone Pro II Broadband. Pro II is the only package that offers the latest WiFi 6E standard throughout the home.

Pro II packages connect over 150 devices through Vodafone’s Ultra Hub router and come with wall-to-wall Super WiFi 6E Boosters and automatic 4G broadband back-up, so you don’t lose connectivity when you need it most. Plans are available for £70 a month.

Full Fibre broadband: Everything you need to know

Full fibre broadband is in the news a lot, but there are crucial differences between the types you can get. We explain what those are and why it matters.

Rob Winterschladen, Consumer Director, Vodafone UK comments: “As ‘The Nation’s Network’, we’re committed to delivering the best and most reliable home connectivity experience. We are challenging the market by offering unbeatable products and services at great value. Not only are we the UK’s biggest Full Fibre provider with a market-leading offering in Pro II inclusive of Secure Net Home, our best-ever security and family controls, we also now offer faster speeds to more homes than any other major provider. Combined, this makes for a really exciting time to switch to Vodafone and get the ultimate, hassle-free broadband for busy families – all at a great price”.

Vodafone’s Pro II plans are built for busy families, helping to fuel connectivity during a summer filled with exciting sporting events and school holidays. Speeds of up to 2.2Gbps on Pro II will ensure households with multiple people downloading, streaming and gaming at the same time have the ultimate experience. For example, one person streaming a swimming competition live online; another streaming the tennis; and others simultaneously downloading large files for work demands high bandwidth from your broadband. Add the school holidays into the mix, with kids gaming or streaming entertainment at home, and this can lead to a poor online experience for everyone. With up to 1.8Gbps and 2.2Gbps available on CityFibre, and up to 1.6Gbps on Openreach, everyone can connect at high speed.

What is WiFi 6E? WiFi router differences explained

There are various versions of WiFi – which one your router and devices have will determine the speed and range of your wireless internet connection. We explain what they are and how to find out which ones you have.

8 July 2024 marks the first customer connected by Vodafone to its 2.2Gbps plan. The customer is also the first to be powered by CityFibre’s new rural network, rolled out to support the government’s ‘Project Gigabit’ programme to enable hard-to-reach communities to access lightning-fast gigabit-capable broadband.

Josh Newman, from Grantchester, Cambridgeshire said: “I’m a filmmaker and a film lecturer, so I deal with quite large files. But my upload speed at the moment tops out at 18Mbps. It just means that uploading cuts, uploading rushes, takes a really long time. And it really throttles the internet for everyone in the house and there’s four of us.

“My wife is working for the NHS, doing a lot of video conferences, dealing with research in public health. So, her internet connection is vital for what she does. My children obviously are using the Internet for entertainment and also for schoolwork. So, we’re a fairly high-usage family. It will be really significant for us to have faster internet. I’m looking forward to the benefits it will bring us”.

What is mesh WiFi? How boosters make your signal go further

State-of-the-art WiFi mesh boosters are a leap ahead compared to older extenders and repeaters – we explain how they work as well as when and where you should put them to improve the range of your wireless signal.

The launch of Vodafone’s fastest-ever broadband follows the recent introduction of Secure Net Home to Pro II, hassle-free security and advanced parental controls on over 150 connected devices in the home to keep your family safe online.

Secure Net Home is designed for families and is available at no extra cost to new and upgrading Pro II customers***. Built into the Ultra Hub router and easily managed within the Secure Net app, it offers:

  • Hassle-free security – giving real-time protection against viruses and online threats for any device that’s connected to your WiFi router.
  • Family controls – to manage what children see and do online with customisable content filters for their devices.
  • Focus time – allowing you to activate focus time by restricting access to distracting content – perfect for homework time.
  • Set bedtimes – to help your children switch off at night by turning off the WiFi connection between their connected devices and your router when it’s bedtime.
  • Pause the Internet – enables you to manage your children’s screentime by pausing the WiFi connection between your children’s connected devices and your router.

Secure Net Home joins Vodafone’s existing Secure Net all-in-one mobile security service, meaning that Vodafone has families covered whether at home or on the move. Both are managed using the Secure Net app, available to download from the App Store or Google Play, making it quicker and easier than ever to stay protected on Vodafone’s reliable, award-winning network****.

Notes to Editors

*Speed of 2.2Gbps: will not be achievable on one singular device today. This is due to the latest top-end devices achieving speeds in the range of 1.3Gbps to 1.8Gbps. Our fastest speeds will improve the speed and general experience across multiple devices. In selected areas only. Check the availability of our fastest speeds.

**34 Mbps vs our 2.2Gbps is the equivalent of up to 60x faster (2200 divided by 34).

***Secure Net Home is now available for all new Pro II customers at no extra cost. Existing Pro II customers also have access to Secure Net Home free of charge, simply go to the Vodafone Broadband app to activate.

****Reliable, award-winning network: The UK relies on Vodafone as a network provider as it: i) powers critical national infrastructure and 77% of emergency services, ii) has coverage in 99% of UK homes, iii) covers 96% of the UK and iv) has won numerous awards. See full details and awards on our Network page.

Claims & substantiation

The claims are:

  • UK’s largest Full Fibre Provider
  • Fastest speeds in more locations than any other major UK provider
  • UK’s fastest WiFi technology throughout the home

Claim – UK’s largest Full Fibre Provider
Vodafone is the largest Full Fibre provider in the UK with Full Fibre available to 15.1 million out of 31.9 million premises – approximately 47% UK coverage (31.9 million premises from: Ofcom, Connected Nations 2023: UK report and Methodology annex).

Full Fibre available in more homes than anyone else: As independently verified by thinkbroadband.com. Results based on availability of CityFibre, Openreach, OFNL, Virgin Media as of 20 March 2024:

Claim – Fastest speeds in more locations than any other major UK provider

Vodafone provides the fastest speeds compared to any other major provider in the UK, with speeds of up to 2.2Gbps across the CityFibre network.

Our fastest speeds are up to 60x faster than the average download speed of our standard broadband: Fibre 1 (35Mbps) vs. Pro Full Fibre 2.2Gbps (2200Mbps).

Claim – UK’s fastest WiFi technology throughout the home

Vodafone have the UK’s fastest WiFi technology throughout the home compared to other major providers. There have been no further WiFi 6E router launches, since we launched Pro II with WiFi 6E technology.

We have the “UK’s fastest WiFi technology throughout the home” compared to other major home broadband provider’s because:

  1. Our Ultra Hub and Super WiFi 6E Boosters are the only WiFi 6E-enabled broadband devices that are provided by a major home broadband provider to customers with their broadband plans – hub and boosters can be placed throughout a customer’s home dependent on their requirements.
  2. WiFi 6E is the latest technical standard for WiFi that introduces a new frequency (6GHz) over and above other WiFi standards (including WiFi 6 and WiFi 5), so there is a ‘fast lane’ for compatible end-user devices.
  3. Our WiFi 6E end-user device testing results show that Vodafone’s Pro II’s technology beats the competition in terms of speed.
